Sportsman GEN4000 Portable Generator Review

Sportsman GEN4000 is a multi-purpose portable generator. It is quite an affordable unit, ideal for limited budget buyers. It is well-constructed, offers exceptional power output, and gives superior performance. Its excellent outlet options provide plenty of versatility. But Sportsman GEN4000 is noisy. However, conventional units do generate noise.

Sportsman gas powered generator

Features:

Type of Generator: Sportsman GEN4000 is a gasoline-powered, RV-ready, portable conventional generator. It is an ideal choice for RV travelers, homeowners, and DIY (Do It Yourself) lovers. Also, you can use this generator to power different outdoor events.

Design: It is an open frame generator featuring all-metal construction, which makes it tough and durable.

Portability: There is no wheel kit available for this unit but moving this generator is not difficult at all. The open-frame design of this generator allows two people to easily carry it from one destination to the other. Its weight is 91 pounds, and its dimensions are 23” (L) x 17.5” (W) x 19.5” (H).

Emissions: Sportsman GEN4000 is only EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) certified. It only follows the standards set by EPA that allows users to use it in the 49 states of the US. It is not CARB (California Air Resources Board) approved, so you can’t use and ship it to California.

Starting System: It only includes a traditional recoil start mechanism, but you will find it easy to pull.

Power Output: Powered by a 212cc, 7HP, 4-stroke OHV engine with a cast iron sleeve for durability. It delivers 4000 watts of peak power and 3500 watts of rated power.

This power output is enough to run both small and big home and RV appliances. Also, you can run two power tools simultaneously at home or a construction site.

But never try to power your sensitive electronics because its THD rating is not suitable for them.

Fuel Storage Tank: It comes with a 3.6-gallon gasoline tank without a fuel gauge. You have to open the cap of the tank to check the fuel level.

Runtime: A fully loaded tank can give a runtime of up to 10 hours at half load. Its engine consumes 0.36 gallons of gasoline in an hour.

Power Outlets: The power panel of Sportsman GEN4000 has six outlets. Four of them are the 120 Volt 20 Ampere (5-20R) receptacles that can be used to power home and RV appliances or tools. The other one is the 120 Volt 30 Ampere (TT-30R) receptacle. This outlet makes it an RV-ready generator. And the last one is a 12 Volt 8 Ampere outlet, designed to charge your batteries.

Voltmeter: It also features a voltmeter that shows the operational voltage of the generator.

Sound Level: Its decibel rating is 69 dBA. It is loud, but you can expect this decibel rating from a conventional generator of such power.

Safety: Sportsman GEN4000 features the same common safety features, which are low-oil shutdown and overload protection.

Overloading causes overheating of the generator, and the overload protection automatically shuts off the generator to prevent that overheating and save your generator and appliances from damage. On the other hand, a low-oil shutdown also automatically stops the engine when the oil level goes below the minimum level.

Warranty: It features a 1-year limited warranty. Here a limited warranty means that the warranty doesn’t cover all the generator’s parts.

What is Inside the Box: Along with the generator, you will find a user manual, tool kit, and battery charging cables.
